March 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Over 400 people checked out my list of events in Tampa Bay this weekend. I hope you were able to take advantage of some of the great things this area has to offer! And it doesn’t stop just when Monday rolls around. There’s still a lot going on during the week.

5 Days and $50 gives you a guide of great things to do this week that won’t break the bank. In fact, if you partake in all the suggested events on this list it will cost you less than $50 for the week. Not too shabby.

Monday 3/3 7:45-9PM Mat Pilates Class.

Nameste Yoga (7508 Preserve Walk Lane, Tampa). $5 for first time members!

You may recognize some of the instructors from Namese Yoga from their show on Brighthouse Networks. It is a great place for people of all skill levels who are interested in the fitness and stress relieving benefits of yoga. Tonight’s class focus’ on Pilates, which focuses on breathing techniques and moves that will tighten and strengthen your abs. Make up for the bad stuff you did this weekend by doing something good for your body. Be sure to show up on time with some water, a small towel and a yoga mat.

Tuesday 3/4 7PM Spike Lee Lecture.

USF Sundome (4202 E Fowler Ave, Tampa). $8.

Spike Lee is one of the most outspoken directors of this generation. From the socially charged “Do The Right Thing” and “Malcolm X” to the more commercially popular “Inside Man”, Lee brings his unique attitide and viewpoint to everything he does. His lecture should be especially interesting to young professionals, as he focuses on empowering people to follow their dreams instead of getting bogged down in trying to please society.

Wednesday 3/5 6:30 PM. St Pete Creative Network: Speed Networking.

Push Lounge(128 3rd Street S., Saint Petersburg). $5.

Are you a professional artist, designer, writer, or photograper looking to meet other creative folks and possible get new jobs? Or maybe you’re an aature who is hoping to turn your hobby into a freelance career. The St. Pete Creative Network is hosting this free for all networking event at the hip Push lounge. Bring samples of your work to show off to prospective clients.

Thursday 3/6 7PM Swing Centro Thrusday Nights.

Centro Asturianoin Ybor (1913 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa FL 33602). $10.

Come out and enjoy swing dance in Ybor city. Don’t worry if you look like Elaine Bennis when you hit the floor, the club offers lessons from 7-8PM, and then the music starts up until midnight. This is a great way to meet other singles up close and personal. Remember, if a guy doesn’t have rhythm on the dance floor, he won’t have it in bed. I speak from experience on this fact.

Friday 3/7 10:30PM Friday Night Cult Flick: Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

St. Pete Beach Theater (315 Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach). $8.

Life of Brian isn’t as well known as The Holy Grail, but it’s just as funny. This twisted tale recounts the tale of Brian, a guy born in the stable next to Jesus who spends his life being mistaken for the messiah. This is part of the Beach Thater’s Friday Night Cult Flck series, which has included The Big Lebowski and Fight Club. It’s great fun at a old time moveie theater that feature great nachos and a full bar.

Hopefully this will help you get through the week in Tampa Bay. If you would like to recommend your upcoming class or event for 5 Days and $50, email me at 28intampabay@gmail.com.
